Velma Y. Ruhl, 99, of Lewisburg, formerly of Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 7:13 a.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.

She was born December 27, 1920, in Middleburg, a daughter of the late Landis and Carrie A. (Ritter) Yerger. On November 11, 1944, she married Kenneth “Butch” Ruhl, who preceded her in death on January 4, 1996.

Velma was a 1938 graduate of Middleburg High School as Valedictorian of her class.

She was employed as a bank teller and Customer Service Representative at Mifflinburg Bank and Trust for 32 years until she retired in 1982.

Velma was a devoted Christian and active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mifflinburg, where she was in the choir for 66 years, treasurer of several church groups into her 90s, former Sunday School teacher and Primary Superintendent, a member of Good Fellowship Sunday School class, and held all offices at some time. She was a member of the Fellowship Guild, and the Altar Guild.

Most important to Velma was her family and the visits with her children and grandchildren. She took special delight in seeing her five great-grandchildren.  Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and Roger Spickler of Lewisburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Karen Ruhl of Williamsport; three grandchildren, Phillip Ruhl of Williamsport, Peter and his wife Erin Ruhl of Williamsport, and Emily and her husband Jared Glidewell of Muncy; five great-grandchildren, Burke, Kinley and Marley Ruhl and Max and Ian Glidewell; and a special nephew who was more like a son, Wayne Grubb of Mechanicsburg.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Fay Grubb Sauers, and one sister in infancy.

A Celebration of Life to remember Velma will be held on Saturday, June 19, at 11 a.m., at the St. John’s United Church of Christ, 417 Market St., Mifflinburg, with Rev. Ted Justice and Rev. Alice Rauch, officiating.

Interment will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery.
