Pearl Culp

May 2, 1936 — September 25, 2022

Mifflinburg

Pearl Emily Culp, 86, of Mifflinburg, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Heritage Springs Memory Care, Lewisburg, with loving family at her bedside.

Pearl, one of seven daughters, was born May 2, 1936, in Lock Haven, a daughter of the late Clayton H. and Pearl (Butler) Fye.

She graduated from Lock Haven Senior High school on June 1, 1954. After graduation, Pearl worked as a stenographer at Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven. Pearl was great at what she did and loved her job there.

Pearl married the love of her life, Carl M. Culp, on June 8, 1956. They were married 49 years until he preceded her in death on November 29, 2005.

Pearl was a waitress at Carl Johnson’s Restaurant, Mifflinburg, and spent many years working as a secretary for Children and Youth Services at the Union County Courthouse, Lewisburg. She later assisted at the Culp family-owned business, The Valley Florist, Mifflinburg, where she enjoyed talking with people that she met and helping in many ways.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Pearl enjoyed playing the piano and was a pianist for many years at the Mifflinburg Church of the Nazarene and continued to play while at Heritage Springs. The last song she was known to play was “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”.

Pearl was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, for approximately 30 years.

She was deeply devoted to her family, and nothing gave her more joy than to spend time with them. Her greatest love was for her Lord, and she devoted much of her time in prayer, reading her Bible, and attending church.  Pearl was a sincere and thoughtful person who had a great sense of humor.  She loved working on puzzles, playing games, reading, and tending to her flowers.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel M. and Lisa Culp of Mifflinburg, Michael W. and Donna Culp of New Berlin; one daughter and son-in-law, Traci (Gessner) and Bill Musser of Mifflinburg; four grandchildren, Tiffany Shoemaker and her husband Mark of Mifflinburg, and Madeline Casilla and her husband Ruben of Mifflinburg, Daniel Culp, II, of Mifflinburg, and Dillon Culp and his wife Ally of McDonald; three great grandsons, Ethan Shoemaker, Liam Casilla, and Parker Culp; four great granddaughters, Kira Shoemaker, Lillian Casilla, Lydia Casilla, and Aria Gessner. Pearl fondly referred to them as her “grands”. She took great pleasure spoiling them and always giving them her favorite dessert, ice cream.

Pearl is also survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ethel Bubb of Avis, and Martha and Sam Jones of Fredericksburg, Texas.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Norma Jester, Bertha Mae Breon, Elva (Lutz) Toler, and Jane Jones; one grandson, Clayton B. Gessner, in 2018; and son-in-law, Terry L. Gessner, in 2003.

Family and friends are welcome to a time of visitation from 2 to 3 pm, Saturday, October 1, 2022, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 Market St., Mifflinburg, where the memorial service will be conducted at 3, with Rev. John Yost, officiating.
