Paul Feist

May 23, 1947 — November 25, 2019

Lewisburg

Paul Joseph Feist, 72, of 1921 Beaver Run Road, Lewisburg, went home to be with his Eternal Savior Jesus Christ at 3:34 p.m., Monday, November 25, 2019, at his home of 49 years.

He was born May 23, 1947 in Kelly Township, a son of the late Rev. Kenneth L. and Gladys E. (Boop) Feist. On June 14, 1975, he married the former Elaine L. Shambach, who preceded him in death on January 4, 2012.

Paul started life on his grandfather’s farm in West Buffalo Township. When his pappy and grandma retired, they all moved to Millmont, where he grew up.

His priorities were always to love God, family, country, and the outdoors.  His creed was to rise early, work hard, play hard, and eat hearty.

Paul was a 1965 graduate of Mifflinburg Joint High School.

After graduation, he worked for a year building cabinets at Philco Ford before entering the US Air Force on June 10, 1966. After basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, he graduated from Inventory Management School in Amarillo, Texas. He was then assigned to Cannon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico under the 27th TAC Fighter Wing, Demand Processing Unit, until his honorable discharge as a Sergeant on April 1, 1970.

He then began working for International Paper on May 26, 1970, as part of the plant startup team in Lewisburg, where he worked in production and inventory control. He retired as Materials Manager after the division was sold in 1998.

Paul was always busy. He loved spending time with family, woodworking, model trains, camping, fishing, hunting, vehicle and home maintenance, watching Westerns, and riding his scooter.  He spent many days at the cabin near Cherry Run, which he and his lifelong friend, Terry Shively, who passed away in 2008, owned together. The cabin has always been a gathering place for family, friends, and food.  Paul’s cabin-cooked breakfasts were second to none.

He began camping at age 5, and continued camping when he was stationed in New Mexico and Texas. Paul, Elaine, and Amy spent summers with friends and family at various parks in their camper or motorhome.  Paul enjoyed being under God’s heaven.

Surviving are his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Tim Bingaman of Aaronsburg; and one grandson, Matthew Paul Bingaman, who was his pappy’s special buddy. They are a very close family.

Paul has made his journey to God’s kingdom and his family takes great comfort in knowing that, according to God’s promise, they will be together again.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg., where the funeral will be conducted at 11, with Pastor Darrell Smucker, officiating.

Burial with military honors accorded by American Legion Post 410 and VFW Post 1964, both of Mifflinburg, will follow in the Hartleton Cemetery.

The family welcomes flowers, or memorial contributions may be made to a local Salvation Army, or online at https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/ways-to-give/
