Mary Alice Dietrich

April 16, 1927 — November 10, 2019

Mifflinburg

Mary Alice Dietrich, 92, passed from this world to the next on November 10, 2019, in Easton.

She was born April 16, 1927, a daughter of the late Edward and Annie (Klingman) Dietrich, at their farm near Cowan, Buffalo Township, Union County.  Her name was to be Mary, but she became Mary Alice when she was delivered by Alice Dietrich because the doctor’s horse didn’t trot fast enough.

Mary Alice grew up in Cowan and attended the one room school there and graduated from Mifflinburg High School in 1945.

She held many jobs throughout her life, working at The 5 and 10 Cent Store, Travelers Inn, The Chair Factory, and Bucknell University, all in Lewisburg, and at Huntingdon Throwing Mills, Mifflinburg.  Most recently, Mary Alice worked as a receptionist at the United Methodist Homes, Lewisburg, until 1992 when she retired after 19 ¾ years.

Mary Alice was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cowan for her entire life and was a member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class.  She served on the church council and helped with the Roast Pork Suppers at the church of many years.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda Dietrich Guiles and her husband William of Belvidere, New Jersey; three grandchildren, Jennifer Kling Monarchi of Red Hook, New York, Christopher Kling of Washington, New Jersey, and Rebecca Kling Pichetto and her husband Michael of Nazareth; and nine great grandchildren, Daniel and Zachary Monarchi, Hannah, Katrina, Heidi, and Kelsey Kling, and Robert, Josephine, and Michael Pichetto.

She was preceded in death by one brother, John Klingman Dietrich; one sister, Helen Irene Dietrich Brouse; and one nephew, David Dietrich.

In recent years, Mary Alice kept her mind sharp by completing countless search-a-word puzzles, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, and putting jigsaw puzzles together.  She recruited any visitors to help her.

Mary Alice belonged to a group of women who did tole painting and created many keepsakes for her family.  She was especially fond of incorporating bright colors into her projects.  Mary Alice’s family encourages anyone who plans to attend the viewing or funeral to wear bright or colorful attire in memory of Mary Alice.

Family and friends are welcome from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11.

Burial will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery.

The Dietrich family requests no flowers.  Donations are not necessary, but rather pay forward a kindness in her memory.
