Marion Rose

August 19, 1917 — December 29, 2020

Marion Ranck Rose, 103, of RiverWoods Memory Care, died Tuesday, December 29, 2020.  She was born in Reading, PA, August 19, 1917, daughter of Dayton L. and Irene Snyder Ranck.   Marion married Harry V. Rose in 1946 and was married 49 years until his death in 1994.

Marion moved to Lewisburg with her family in 1924, graduated from Lewisburg High School in 1934 and from Bucknell University in 1938.  Prior to marriage, she was employed at the Lewisburg National Bank.  In 1962, she was employed by Bucknell University, and later became the first personnel officer of the university.  She retired in 1982, and was honored with the Geiger Award for administrative excellence and outstanding contributions that same year.

Marion was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lewisburg, having taught Sunday School for thirty years and served on various boards, including Financial Secretary.

She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club and had served on the active Chapter Advisory Board.  She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and several personnel organizations.  She participated in volunteer efforts in the community, including the Union County Food Distribution program as one of the original volunteers.  She had been a member of the “Knitters Group” at Christ’s Lutheran Church knitting “prayer shawls”.     She appreciated the opportunity to give back to the community when she was able and was an example of a person who selfishly served a cause greater than themselves.

Marion had a deep love for her family, her faith to guide her, and appreciation for flowers, birds and music.  She is especially grateful  to Dr. Michael Brown and office,  Dr. David Robinson and staff and Deb Drasher-Dock for their care in later years.  The family is particulary grateful for the RiverWoods staff for their amazing love and dedication, including the cooks for her daily grilled cheese sandwich.

Upon her death, she relinquished the titles proudly held of oldest member of her beloved First Baptist Church and oldest living Lewisburg Alum.

She’s preceded in death by husband, Harry Vernon Rose, brother, Lee S. Ranck, sister, Doris R. Wilson and cherished son, Richard A. Rose.   Surviving are her remaining children:  Lawrence S. Rose and his wife, Barbara, and Judith L. Mickanis, both of Lewisburg, Maryann Calpin and her husband, Pat, of East Stroudsburg, and Ric’s wife, Isa Garcia-Rose, of Gainesville, Florida; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Charlotte R. Liggett  of Lewisburg, with many nieces and nephews.   All celebrate a remarkable life.

There will be no public service.  But as in the Mourner’s Kadd, “when all that’s left of me is love, give me away. “

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church, 51 S. 3rd St, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
