James Unger

James “Jim” M. Unger, 83, of 48 Laurel St., Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 12:18 a.m., Monday, December 31, 2018, at home.

He was born November 14, 1935, in Orangeville, a son of the late Marshall and Mary (Drum) Unger. On December 17, 1999, he married the former Patsy Kerstetter, who survives.

Jim graduated from Scott Township High School, Orangeville, and from Harrisburg Barber School.

He served in the Air Force from 1955, until his honorable discharge in 1958.

Jim was the owner of barbershops in Winfield and Lewisburg for 17 years, Totally Nuts and Grammy’s Caramel Corn, and Unger’s Sporting Goods Store in Mifflinburg for 35 years.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer, and baseball player, and he enjoyed traveling to watch his family play softball.

Jim was the last living lifetime founder of Orangeville Sportsman Club and was the first to hit a hole-in-one at the Sugarloaf Golf Course.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are one son and daughter-in-law, James M., Jr. and Juli Unger of Mifflinburg; one step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Jon and Beverly Hackenberg of Mifflinburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Blair Dunkle of Selinsgrove; one sister and brother-in-law, Laura J. and George Parsell of Galeton; two nephews, Todd and Doug Parsell; and eight grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan and Ryder Unger, Tori and Kira Hackenberg, and Brady, Brandon, and Olivia Dunkle.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sherry (Inch) Unger in 1985.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
