Winifred Callahan

January 27, 1944 — February 18, 2015

SUNBURY – Winifred Jean Callahan, 71, of 1030 Susquehanna Ave., formerly of Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 9:29 p.m., Wednesday, February 18, 2015, in Williamsport Hospital.

She was born January 27, 1944, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Melvin J. and Catherine (Swartzlander) Benelisha.  On September 21, 1963, in Hamilton, she married her best friend, Sherman C. Callahan, who survives.

Winifred attended Shikellamy High School.

She worked at the Huntington Throwing Mill, Mifflinburg, Gross Silk Mill, Selinsgrove and the Mifflinburg High School.

Winifred attended the Mifflinburg Assembly of God Church.

She enjoyed her granddaughter, Kimberly Schreck, visiting every day to assist her.  Winifred also enjoyed Bingo, cards, picnics, her soaps, spending time with family and friends, and her furry children, Mojo, Bella, Chubby and Pig.

Surviving in addition to her husband, are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Catherine Callahan and her companion Mike Odonnell of Marietta; Melinda and Brian Libby of Sunbury, and Amanda and Dave Snyder of Sunbury; one son, Bradley Galbraith and his companion Roxanne Decker of Milton; ten grandchildren, Kimberly and her husband Justin Schreck, Briana Martin, Mike Kahley, Faith Kahley, Tracy Black, Joelle Walter, Colton Maines, Brylinn and Adlee Galbraith, and Mayson Snyder; nine great grandchildren, Hunter, Natalie, Arianna, Justin, Catherine, Brayden, John, Riley and Khali; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five children; a grandson, Andrew Kahley, Jr.; a brother, Robert Benelisha; a sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Thomas Lynch; 3 nephews, Michael Lynch, Thomas Lynch, Jr. and Joseph Benelisha; and a brother-in-law, George Callahan

Family and friends are welcome from 12 to 1 p.m., Monday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg where a funeral service will be held at 1, with Pastor Butch Woolsey, officiating.

Burial will be in Hartleton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, to assist Winifred’s family defray funeral costs, memorial contributions may be made to Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, PA 17844.
