Vernon J. Gessner, 88. of 108 Shipton St., Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 5:55 a.m., Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born June 4, 1932 in Lewisburg, a son of the late John and Caroline (Catherman) Gessner. On June 24, 1967, he married the former Ruth M. Predix, who survives.
Vernon was employed at Yorktowne, Mifflinburg, for all of his working years.
He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg.
Vernon was a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1229, Middleburg, and life member of the Buffalo Valley Sportsmen’s Club, Mifflinburg.
He was a volunteer in the Mifflinburg Little League for over 20 years.
Vernon enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding roller coasters, coaching, and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was known for his boisterous voice during sporting events and could always be heard across the gym or field, and his loudness may have gotten him in trouble a time or two.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Toni Gessner, and Andrew and Renee Gessner, all of Mifflinburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Brendan Radel of Mifflinburg; three sisters-in-law, Helen Gessner, Pat Gessner, and Emma Gessner; eight grandchildren, Joe, Ryan, Kyle, Eric, Kolton, Landen, Kylee, Payton; two great-grandchildren, Stella and Waylon; and his beloved dog, Jack.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Luther, and Ernie Gessner; four nephews, Terry, Todd, Rocky and Clay Gessner; and one niece, Melody Smith.
There will be no public viewing. Family and friends are welcome to a time of visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2020, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 Market St, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 1, with Rev. John Yost, officiating. PA Dept. of Health guidelines for gatherings will be followed including masks and social distancing.
Burial will be in Mifflinburg Cemetery.
