VICKSBURG - Verna Veleria Beck, 93, of 6422 Old Turnpike Road for the past 55 years, entered into rest at 2:58 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
She was born Oct. 27, 1916, in Woodward, a daughter of the late James and Elsie (Benner) Smith. She was married for 55 years to Franklin A. Beck, who preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1997.
Verna was a member of Dreisbach United Church of Christ, Lewisburg. She formerly was a member of Cowan Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
Verna enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers at her home. She was a member of the Vicksburg Flower Club.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gerald F. and Jennifer L. Beck, of Mifflinburg; one granddaughter, Crystal A. Hoffman, of Milton; and one great-granddaughter, Brianna Beck.
She was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Tyler Hoffman, and eight brothers and sisters.
There will be no public viewing. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mazeppa Union Cemetery with the Rev. Michael C. Romig officiating.
