Ruth C. Long, 85, Mifflinburg

Ruth C. Long, 85, of 280 N. 8th St., for the past 5 years, formerly of Long Rd., Mifflinburg, for nearly 50 years, entered into rest at 4:15 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2011, at her home.

She was born March 6, 1926, in Mifflinburg, a daughter of the late David S. and Gladys H. (Sauers) Kaler. On April 29, 1945, she married Guy F. Long, who survives.

Ruth attended Green Grove School.

She is a member of Mountain Road God's Missionary Church, Penns Creek, where she was a Sunday school teacher.

Although a homemaker most of her life, Ruth was employed at the Pennsylvania Chair Factory, Lewisburg, from 1942 to 1945.

She enjoyed collecting dolls, sewing, making teddy bears, and attending yard sales. Ruth loved tending to her roses and flowers at her home, and was known by her family as preparing the best Thanksgiving turkey dinners.

Surviving in addition to her husband of nearly 66 years, are two sons and daughters-in-law, Galen C. and Margaret Long of Millmont, and Allen E. and Brenda Long of Mifflinburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon J. and Clyde E. Chappell, III, of Mifflinburg; two brothers, Clair D. Kaler of Swengel, and Paul E. Kaler of Lewisburg; one sister, Iris Mitchell of Arizona; 9 grandchildren, Brian Long of Middleburg, David Chappell of Lewisburg, Vincent Long of Beavertown, Nathan Long of Mifflinburg, Ryan Long of New Berlin, Duane Long of Middleburg, Jathan Long of Mifflinburg, Kimberly Reedy Lewisburg, and Crystal Withe of Maine; 14 great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Long of Middleburg; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Stanley G. Long.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Mountain Road God's Missionary Church, 1530 Mountain Rd., Penns Creek, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. Alan K. Walter, officiating.

Burial will be in the Old Cedars Cemetery, Swengel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mountain Road God's Missionary Church, 1530 Mountain Road, Middleburg, PA 17842.

Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
