Roy L. Voneida

Roy L. Voneida, 82, of Meadow Green Dr., Mifflinburg, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 22, 2024, at home, to be with his Lord and Savior, finally free of his illnesses.

He was born August 5, 1941, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Robert E. and Marie E. (Vanatta) Voneida.

Roy was a 1959 graduate of Mifflinburg High School.

He experienced various jobs over his lifetime from working for an interior designer, a licensed driver examiner, an infirmary supervisor at Rockview penitentiary, a custodian at Bucknell University, an aide at Laurelton Center and, finally, as a caseworker in Sunbury before retirement.

Roy especially enjoyed woodworking, tinkering around the home with special projects, and Penn State football. But his favorite pastime was agitating or really teasing people, and he was delighted when they gave it right back. Roy also worked many years with the Christkindl Market and the Buffalo Valley Singers.

He was active for many years in the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, serving on many committees throughout the years, including administrative and trustees, as well as directing the church choir for several years. 

Roy was a member of the Mifflinburg Masonic Lodge 370 and the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410. He served as a 3rd Class Hospital Corpman in the Navy from 1962 until his honorable discharge in 1966. 

Surviving is his partner of 47 years, N. Richard “Rick” Anderson.

Roy was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Voneida.

Family and friends are welcome to a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, April  26, at the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, 279 Market St., Mifflinburg, where the memorial service will be conducted at 2, with Rev. Robert Rice and Pastor Betty Ann Berry, officiating.

Burial will be in Mifflinburg Cemetery with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 410 and VFW Post 1964, both of Mifflinburg.
