Richard Emery

June 17, 1927 — January 19, 2015

MIFFLINBURG – Richard K. Emery, 87, of 752 Emery Rd., for the past 58 years, entered into rest at 6:41 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2015, at his home.

He was born June 17, 1927, in White Springs, a son of the late Rollin and Helen (Grove) Emery.  On June 16, 1952, he married the former Gladys Swartz, who preceded him in death in 1990.

Richard was a 1944 graduate of Mifflinburg High School.

He served in the Navy during World War II from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946.

Richard was employed as a truck driver his entire life, and was proud of his safe driving miles.

He was a founding member of the Christ White Springs Church.

Richard enjoyed going out to eat at restaurants, traveling and playing cards with his friends, and was eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

He was a member of the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410, and the Union County Sportsmen’s Club, Weikert.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Carl R. and Jenette Emery of Mifflinburg; two daughters and one son-in-law, Virginia M. Emery of Mifflinburg, and Donna E. and Michael Sullivan of Winfield; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Warren Emery of Mifflinburg, Robert Emery of Mifflinburg, and Neil and Myrtle Lou Emery of Houston, Texas; one sister, Fae Hanselman of Mifflinburg; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Forrest; two sisters, Kathryn Weller and Josephine Haggy; one grandson, Keil Allen Herman; and one infant son.

Family and friends are welcome from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, at the Christ White Springs Church, White Springs Rd., where the funeral will be conducted at 11, with Pastor Albert Hartley, officiating.

Military honors will be by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.
