MIFFLINBURG - Paul Jones "P.J." Curry, 80, of 312 Stone Haven Road for the past 23 years, entered into rest at 6:25 p.m., Friday Jan. 29, 2010 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born in Wilmington, Del. on Aug. 15, 1929, a son of the late Paul Jones Sr. and Anne (Egan) Curry. On Jan. 4, 1992, he married the former Shirley A. Bolig, who survives.
Paul was a 1947 graduate of Carson Long Military Institute and earned his degree in civil engineering at the University of Delaware in 1954.
He honorably served in the Air Force as a Link Trainer, training fighter pilots during the Korean War.
He was employed for 32 years as a building engineer for Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania.
Paul faithfully attended the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir.
Paul sang bass for the Buffalo Valley Singers for many years. He also served as the band's stage manager.
He was skilled at construction and design and his craftsmanship has been utilized in many ways. Paul built the outside doors at the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church; a live scale steam locomotive on display at the Carriage Corner Restaurant, Mifflinburg; many display items for the Mifflinburg Christkindl Market and endless woodworking items for his family and friends. He was recognized for his assistance in the design and construction of the St. George Church, Mifflinburg.
Paul enjoyed golfing, equestrian dressage and traveling with his wife.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 18 years are four daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah L. and Geoffrey Savage, of Wilmington, Sondra J. and Paul Weidman, of Telford, Angela S. and Michael Kreisher, of Mifflinburg and Lori A. and Joseph Bollinger, of State College; and nine grandchildren. He was known as "Grandpa" to Jeffrey and Daniel Coleman; as "Boompa" to Shawn Motter and Kylee Kreisher; as "Pop-Pop" to Brooke, Connor and Ethan Bollinger and "Boppy" to William Savage.
A celebration of Paul's life will be conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday at the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, 279 Market St., with Rev. Ronald Warfle and Pastor Calvin Morgan, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, 279 Market St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844, or to the Union County Chapter of the American Red Cross, International Disaster Relief Fund, 249 Farley Circle, Lewisburg, PA 17837.
Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg.
