Melba A. Moyer, 99, Syracuse

Melba Alice Moyer, 99, a resident of Van Duyn Home and Hospital, Syracuse, formerly of New Berlin, entered into rest Saturday morning, September 3, 2011, at Van Duyn Home and Hospital.

She was born September 7, 1911, in New Berlin, a daughter of the late Harry Wilson and Estella Mae (Mull) Sechman. She was married to Paul Moyer. He preceded her in death September 14, 1997.

Melba was a member of the Emmanuel United Church of Christ, New Berlin where she was active in many of its ministries except for the years 1944-1961 when her family was living in New Jersey.

She was a member of the New Berlin Heritage Association.

She was an avid collector of teddy bears, many of which have been given to grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Mardean R. and Carol Moyer of Syracuse; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Eileen and Lloyd Appleby, of Lancaster; one sister, Betty K. Fisher of Selinsgrove; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Lester, Wendell, Howard, Murry, John, and Richard Sechman; and two sisters, Eileen Mae Bowersox, and Genevieve Annie Miller.

Family and friends are welcome from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 326 Market St., New Berlin, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dawn Marie Meir, officiating.

Burial will be in the New Berlin Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Melba's name to Emmanual United Church of Christ, 326 Market St., New Berlin, PA 17855.

Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
