Matthew J. Gillespie

Matthew James Gillespie, 62, of Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 9:40 p.m., Monday, June 2, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born October 26, 1962, in Honolulu, Hawaii, a son of the late Walter A. and Vondetta E. (Younkins) Gillespie.

Matt was a graduate of Boonsboro High School, Boonsboro, Maryland.

He served in the Navy from 1985 until his honorable discharge in 2001, and then served as a Navy recruiter.

After his Navy service, Matt was employed as a store manager at Finish Line and AT&T.

He was a member of the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.

Matt enjoyed golfing, watching sports, spending time with his grandchildren, and his two dogs.

Surviving are three sons, Nathan Gillespie of Mifflinburg, Matthew Gillespie, and Kyle Gillespie; two daughters and one son-in-law, Katelinn and Tyler Schleig of Hummelstown, and Elaina Gillespie; five grandchildren, Peyton, Piper, and Nolan Schleig, and Reagan and Nola Gillespie; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Michelle and Steve Shaffer of Boonsboro, and Barbara and Doug Bish of York.

Family and friends are welcome to a time of visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 10, at Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the celebration of life will be conducted at 11. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 410 and VFW Post 1964, both of Mifflinburg.
