Martha Walter

d. February 1, 2010

MIFFLINBURG - Martha Emma Walter, 92, formerly of 111 Shipton St. for 31 years, entered into rest at 7:55 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg, where she had been a resident since 2004.
She was born May 30, 1917, in the Brownstown section of Johnstown, a daughter of the late Ernst and Emile (Minter) Wicknick. On June 16, 1951, in Winchester, W.Va., she married Kenneth Walter, who preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 2005.
Around the time of World War II, Martha moved to Milton for employment. It was there that she met the love of her life, Kenneth Walter, at a roller skating rink. After marriage, they built a house in Lewisburg, and eventually moved back to the Walter Farm in Mifflinburg. Martha was a city girl who learned to live on a farm and work side-by-side with her husband. She also found time to make quilts and preserve food, skills she learned from her mother.
Martha was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Cowan.
Martha was part of a large, loving family and an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews who hold her in high regard. Though she did not have children of her own, she was a wonderful aunt and role model who will be greatly missed. She considered the Coddington family, of Mifflinburg, to be her family and cherished her role as "grandma" to their children and grandchildren.
She is survived by one sister, Elsie Anna Hess, of Johnstown.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Johnston, Paul A. Wicknick, Freida M. Bothwell, Henry A. Wicknick, Eric E. Wicknick, Albert E. Wicknick, William G. Wicknick, Dorothy K. Williams and Mildred J. Kerrick.
Visitors may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 with the Rev. James H. Gold officiating.
Burial will be in Lewisburg Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Martha's memory to Cowan Trinity Lutheran Church, 2599 Church Road, Mifflinburg, PA 17844.
