MIFFLINBURG – Leon G. “James” “Hen” Sheesley, 84, of 1 Thomas St., since 1996, formerly of Hartleton, entered into rest at 7:07 a.m., Thursday, October 15, 2015, at his home.
He was born May 3, 1931, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Carl and Ardrenna (Smith) Sheesley. Leon was formerly married to Janet Sheesley. On September 18, 2003, he married the former Diane L. Yetter, who survives.
Leon was a member of the Christ Community Church, Glen Iron.
He served in the Army during the Korean War, from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1952. Leon then served in the National Guard from 1957 until 1979.
Earlier in life, Leon was employed at PHILCO Ford, Watsontown, and Bucknell University, Lewisburg. He served as Assistant Chief of Police in Lewisburg, from 1960 until 1970. Leon was employed at the U.S. Penitentiary, Lewisburg, as a supervisor, from 1972 until he retired in 1992. After he retired, he worked at Weis Markets, Mifflinburg, for 18 years.
He enjoyed visiting residents at area nursing homes, meeting his friends in the mornings at McDonald’s for coffee, spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, picnics, attending carnivals, and the Woodward Festival.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 12 years, Diane, are four sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Patti Sheesley of Joppa, Alabama, Mike, Sr. and Cindy Sheesley of Pottsgrove, John, Sr. and Sharon Sheesley of Lewisburg, and Timothy and Roxie Sheesley of Northumberland; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sherry and Joe Zimmerman of Mifflinburg, and Fran Dauberman of Milton; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Patty and Toni Blalock of Dodge City, Alabama, Wendy and Damien Norton of Millville, Kimberly and Brian Wood of Beavertown, Michael, Jr. and Tshanda Sheesley of Carlisle, Christopher and Laura Sheesley of Northumberland, John, Jr. and Tara Sheesley of Watsontown, Bryce and Rebekah Noone of Norfolk, Virginia, Shannon and Daniel Hagenbuch of Montandon, Carl Sheesley and his fiancé Britney Strouse of Montandon, Jenny and Robert Troutman of Milton, and Lynn Dauberman and her companion Greg Peoples of Lewisburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Oren “Butch” and Doris Sheesley of Hartleton; one sister, Norma “Pat” Bennett of Hartleton; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; two step-daughters, Jodi Bremigen of Lewisburg, and Angela Thompson of Mifflinburg; and 4 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Clifford Dauberman.
Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, and 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, at the Wayside Bible Church, Route 104 Middleburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11, with Pastor Timothy Reich, officiating.
Burial will be in the Hartleton Cemetery, with military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion and area veterans.
