Larry E. Fry

April 4, 1941 — February 20, 2024

Middleburg

Larry E. Fry, 82, of Middleburg, passed away at home Tuesday February 20, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born April 4, 1941, in York County, a son of the late Frank and Marguerite (McClain) Fry. On July 3, 1970, he married the former Carol Poese, who survives.  Together they celebrated 53 years.

Larry was born into farming and carried that love of working the land, driving trucks and doing needed repairs. He was the “we can make this work kind of person".

His various jobs always involved a tractor or truck. Early in life, he worked in farming at Hunderford Canning and helping his dad on the farm, then drove truck for ATI, Pap Schaffer, until he retired from Wells Brothers.

Larry’s farming included raising hogs and a dairy farm.  After retirement, he did many woodworking projects in his shop. He enjoyed making primitive furniture for family and play toys for his grandkids. Larry taught himself to cook and could prepare a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings and even made waffles from scratch. He was always ready for a BBQ cookout which gave him a chance to use his smoker.

He was happiest being busy with projects like machinery repairs or anything that involved using a John Deere, Bobcat, or a Ford truck.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Shari Fry of McClure; three daughters and one son-in-law, Gail L. Shipman of Bixby, Oklahoma, Lynne Moore of Bixby, Oklahoma, and Jody and William Weist of Middleburg; five grandchildren, Jason and his wife Alicia Fry of York, April Moore of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Justin Shipman, and Austin Shipman of Bixby, Oklahoma, and Jacob Weist of Middleburg; and two great grandsons, Carter and Atley Fry of York.

He was proceeded in death by two sisters, Betty Mellott and Joyce Honeychurch; and an infant son, Daniel Fry.

The Fry family would like to thank those involved in Larry's four-and-a-half-year battle with the rare cancer, merkel cell. The staff at Wellspan oncology and Geisinger Urology and Dr. Drabick and team at Hershey oncology, also Evangelical Community Hospital doctors and nurses and Hospice team.
