John E. Schnure, 78, of 5 E. Green Street, Mifflinburg, entered into rest on Friday, July 3, 2026, at home.
He was born December 15, 1947 in Lewisburg, a son of the late Keith C. and June R. (Klingman) Schnure. On January 20, 1968, at First Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, he married the former Linda M. Murray, who survives.
John was a 1966 graduate of Mifflinburg High School and received an associate degree in Carpentry from Williamsport Area Community College.
He was the owner of Schnure’s Disposal Service, Mifflinburg.
Throughout his life, he was deeply committed to serving his community. John was a lifelong member of the Mifflinburg Hose Company, served with the Mifflinburg Fire Police, and proudly served as Mayor of Mifflinburg from 1982 to 1990. A member of First Lutheran Church, he served on the church council and shared his love of music as a member of the choir.
John took great pride in everything he did, from maintaining a beautifully kept lawn and landscaping, to ensuring his cars and garbage trucks were always spotless. He was especially proud of his business and genuinely loved his work and the relationships he built with his many loyal customers.
Known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, he had a gift for making others smile and will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and unwavering pride in his family, his work, and the community he loved.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 58 years, are two daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Dr. Shawn McGlaughlin of Mifflinburg and Nichole and Rob Pfirman of Lewisburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Lindsay Schnure of Mifflinburg; one brother, Dave Schnure of Mifflinburg; one sister, Candy Schnure and her wife Claudia Bertz of Arlington Heights, Illinois; six grandchildren, Maura Heiges, Sydney Gingher, Macie and Madden Schnure, and Max and Harley Pfirman; four great-grandchildren, Banks and Luca Gingher, Remi and Taytum Heiges.
A graveside service will be held privately in Mifflinburg Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Scarlet D, 264 Chestnut Street, Mifflinburg from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 14th.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Mifflinburg Hose Company, 325 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844.
