John B. Melone, Jr., 86, Mifflinburg
John Baptiste Melone, Jr., 86, of 201 Mifflin Place, Mifflinburg, formerly of Timberhaven Dr., Lewisburg, entered into rest at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Manor Care North, Williamsport.
He was born January 6, 1925, in Milton, a son of the late John B., Sr. and Louise (Ticconi) Meloni. On July 2, 1949, in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Milton, he married the former Phyllis J. Musser, who survives.
John attended the Milton Schools.
He was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Milton.
John enlisted in the Navy during World War II, on January 27, 1943. During his time of service he served on a destroyer in the North Atlantic escorting convoys from Nova Scotia to Murmansk, Russia. In 1991, he was awarded a medal of gratitude from the Russia Republic for his honorable service. John was also awarded the European Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, and Pacific Theater Ribbon.
He was employed at H.W. Warshow's, Milton, for 30 years, until he retired in 1987.
John was very proud of his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed sharing time with his family. He also enjoyed taking trips to visit Gettysburg.
He was a member of the Milton American Legion Post 71.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 61 years, are two sons and daughters-in-law, Barry W. and Karen L. Melone of Newport, and Michael V. and Tana S. Melone of Hagerstown, MD; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle M. and Russell M. Wagner of Hartleton; 6 grandchildren, Brent, Anthony, Nicholas, Gina, Talia, and Trey Melone; and 5 great grandchildren.
Family and friends are welcome from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ron Wagner, officiating.
Burial will be in the Hartleton Cemetery, with military honors by the Milton American Legion Post 71.
