John R. Himmelreich, 71, Mifflinburg

John Richard Himmelreich, 71, of 71 Bent Birch Lane, for the past 7 years, formerly of Landisburg, entered into rest at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at his home.

He was born December 27, 1939, in Oley, a son of the late John R., Sr. and Anna (Nicholas) Himmelreich. On June 1, 1963, in Oley, he married the former Ruth A. Sharp, who survives.

John attended the Oley schools.

He was employed at Branch Motor Express, Watsontown, for 21 years, and then Roadway Express, Carlisle, for 15 years, until he retired.

John was a member of the Mifflinburg Christian Missionary Alliance Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

He was a member of the Buffalo Valley Sportsmen's Club, Mifflinburg, and the Muddy Water Hunting Camp, McKean County.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, studying history, and was a Philadelphia Phillies fan.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 48 years, are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Richard and Susan Himmelreich of Mifflinburg, Ronald and Rose Himmelreich of Powder Springs, Georgia, and Jeff Himmelreich of Largo, Florida; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Raymond and Sue Himmelreich of Fleetwood, and Mark Himmelreich of Auburn; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Mary and Harry Quinter of Reading, Linda and Tommy Reider of Douglasville, Barbara and Mike Kissinger of Reading, and Zena Knowles of Kutztown; one sister-in-law, Shirley Himmelreich of Oley; four grandchildren, Zachary, Joshua, Andrew, and Jacob Himmelreich; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, George Himmelreich; and one nephew, Mike Himmelreich.

Family and friends are welcome from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, at the Mifflinburg Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 80 Church Rd., where a memorial service to celebrate the life of John will be conducted at 3 p.m., with Rev. Glen Bayly, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Mifflinburg Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 80 Church Rd., Mifflinburg, PA 17844 or the Geisinger Hospice, 100 North Academy Ave., Danville, PA 17822.

Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
