James “Jim” William Shipton, 99, of 828 N. 4th St., Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 10:31 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2025, at Wellspan Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born April 23, 1926, in Swengel, a son of the late William Shook and Elizabeth M. (Knauss) Shipton. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Carol A. Lynch.

Jim was a 1944 graduate of Mifflinburg High School and Susquehanna University in 1952. Later in life, he graduated from Pilot Ground School at Penn College of Technology and obtained his pilot’s license.

He was owner and operator, along with his brothers Charles and Donald, of Shipton Brothers Building and Supply, Inc., from where he retired in September of 1991. During retirement, he enjoyed many years as a driver for Hoover Tractor and many other Mennonite families.

Jim was a member of U.S.S. Zaniah Association, U.S. Navy memorial Foundation, imperial Domain of Golden Dragon, Order of the Setting Sn, Okinawa Chapter; Domain of Neptunus Rex, Imperivm Neptvni Regis, U.S. Navy Log, Federal Communications Operator (FCC), Statute of Liberty Foundation, American legion H. Clapton Post 410, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mifflinburg, Mifflinburg Moose Lodge #1396, Pilot's International, Aircraft owners & Pilots Association, FCC Radio Telephone Operator Permit, Lifetime member of St. Lucie Country Club, Florida, Lifetime member of Buffalo Valley Sportsman's Association, Pennsylvania Farmer's Association, September Days Club, American Association of Retired Persons and American Automobile Club.

He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg, where he served on various committees.

Jim enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on board the U.S.S. Zaniah as a Gunner 3/c SV6 USNR, on board the U.S. S. Zaniah in the Pacific, Okinawa Unto Operation and Asiatic-Pacific Campaigns and was honorably discharged in Bainbridge, Maryland. He received various medals including the Pacific Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, American Area Campaign Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal, World War II Naval Occupation Medal Assault and Occupation of Okinawa Gunto Medal, One-Star/Okinawa Gunto Operation, Navy Occupation Medal "A" Clasp and World War II Victory Medal.

He became a Shellback after crossing the equator and is a member of the Imperivm Neptvni Regis.

Jim enjoyed flying, woodworking, fishing, traveling, especially ocean cruises, reading and spending time with his grandchildren. He spent many hours on projects for the children and grandchildren, such as making grandfather clocks, rocking horses, wooden cars and trucks, barns, dollhouses, cradles, etc.

He was a much-loved husband, father, and grandfather.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, is one son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Karen Shipton; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Steven Dippery; four grandchildren, Taylor Shipton (John), Julia Shipton, Steve Dippery, and Michael Dippery; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Shipton and Donald Shipton; and one sister, Florine Condit.

Family and friends are welcome from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, December 4, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the service will be conducted at 11, with Rev. Curt Wingert, officiating.

A private burial will be in Mifflinburg Cemetery, with military honors accorded by American Legion Post 410 and VFW Post 1964, both of Mifflinburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to either the U.S. Naval Museum, Washington D.C., World War II Memorial, Buffalo Valley Sportsmen's Assoc., 950 Sportsmen's Club Road, Mifflinburg, PA 17844, or the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 Market St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844.
