James M. Barnard, 83, Mifflinburg

James Montgomery Barnard, 83, of 1446 Pine Bark Lane, entered into rest at 11:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Riverwoods, Lewisburg.

He was born January 27, 1931, in Houston, Texas, a son of the late James Haliday and Dorothy Alice (Walther) Barnard. On December 22, 2007, in New Berlin, he married the former Beverly A. (Gibboney) Miller, who survives.

James was a graduate of Chevy Chase High School, Bethesda, Maryland, and attended the University of Maryland.

He served in the Army as a Staff Sergeant from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1956.

James was employed as a Nuclear Engineer at General Dynamics, in Fort Worth, Texas from 1955 to 1968, and then at Lockheed (NASA) in Houston, Texas, from 1968 to 1972. He owned and operated Barnard's General Store, and a chainsaw sales and service business in Bodines, from 1972 until he retired in 1997.

He enjoyed buying cars, fixing old radios, working on chainsaws, reading, and telling jokes.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are one son, James Barnard of Harrisburg; two daughters and one-son-in-law, Bonnie and Daryl Cain of Helena, Montana, and Alicia Barnard of Metuchen, New Jersey; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Sandra Barnard of Willow Spring, North Carolina; four step-children and their spouses, Brenda and Scott Gessner of Mifflinburg, Melinda and Steve Overdorf of Milton, Steve and Wanda Hook of Middleburg, and Wayne and Betty Hook of Lewisburg; two grandsons, Logan Cain, and Ryan Cain, both of Helena; 13 step-grandchildren; and 18 step-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife, Lucille Rebedoux Barnard.

Family and friends are welcome from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Pastor Butch Woolsey, officiating.

Burial will be in the Madisonburg Cemetery, with military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.

Memorial gifts may be made to either the Evangelical Hospice, 1 Hospital Dr., Lewisburg, PA 17837, or to an Animal Rescue of the donor's choice.
