Jack F. Wertz, 88, of New Columbia, entered into rest at 1:19 p.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at home.
He was born February 19, 1937, in White Deer on the Wertz homestead, a son of the late Daniel and Nora (Reedy) Wertz. On December 28, 1962, at Walter’s United Methodist Church, White Deer, he married the former Caroline Phillips, who survives.
Jack was a 1957 graduate of Milton High School.
He was employed as a sandblaster at Shippers Car Line, Milton, for 37 years, and throughout his life worked with the family logging business, Wertz Saw Mill, White Deer.
Jack was a member of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church of White Deer.
He enjoyed traveling on bus trips, watching the New York Yankees, and playing cards with his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 63 years, are three sons and one daughter-in-law, Douglas Wertz, Andrew and Elizabeth Wertz, and Jonathan Wertz, all of White Deer; one daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Ryan of White Deer; four sisters, Martha Newman, Charlotte Prowant, Patricia Zettelmoyer, and Frances Mills, all of White Deer; and four grandchildren, Emily, Kaleb, Gehrig, and Jackson.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Gordon “Bob” Wertz; two sisters, Phyllis “Chip” Foust, and Freda Burrows; and one grandson, Nathaniel.
Services will be private.
