Helen Smith

December 29, 1927 — April 25, 2016

MIFFLINBURG – Helen “Toots” Louise Smith, 88, of 137 Dice Rd., since 1957, she was surrounded by her friends and family for days leading up to going home with the Lord at 9:50 p.m., Monday, April 25, 2016, at her home.

She was born December 29, 1927, in Milton, a daughter of the late Harry and Rose (Dolan) Haines.  On August 23, 1946, in Mazeppa, she married Gene “Tony” L. Smith, who preceded her in death July 8, 2008.

Helen attended Milton High School.

She was employed at Chef Boyardee, Milton, for 27 years, until she retired in 1993.  Helen also worked on the family farm in Limestone Township.

Helen enjoyed sewing, ceramics, John Wayne, puzzles, and time with her family.  Helen and Gene had many family members and young people who would come to the farm and live over the years.  They never turned anyone way.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Winifred Smith of Winfield; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jacqueline Kaler of Mifflinburg, and Peggy and Richard Kulp of Mifflinburg; 6 grandchildren, Paul Kaler, Jenn Mabus, Shawn Smith, Caitlyn Smith, Heidi Kulp, and Tammy Kulp Rhyne; 14 great grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce and Charlie Haines; and three sisters, Eleanor Miller, Ann Hunt, and Florence Haines.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, and 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11, with Pastor Henry Sharrow, officiating.

Burial will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery.
