Helen Iddings

MIFFLINBURG - Helen Elizabeth (Hendricks) Iddings, 100, of 609 Green St., Mifflinburg, passed away peacefully at 8:40 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg, where she had resided since Dec. 19, 2014.

She was born March 29, 1916, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Raymond Charles and Nettie (Montgomery) Hendricks. On May 4, 1935, in Sunbury, she married John Lewis Iddings who preceded her in death on March 19, 2007, breaking a marital union of 72 years.

Helen attended Sunbury schools and graduated from Sunbury High School in the class of 1934.

Earlier in life, she was employed by the Mifflinburg Area School District. Helen worked in the elementary school cafeteria for 25 years, including almost 15 years as the head cook. She also served as bookkeeper for the Iddings Quarry, Mifflinburg, a business her husband owned and operated for 45 years.

Helen cherished her many friends in the church and community. For more than 80 years, she was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg. She also was an active member of the David Dagle Missionary Circle and the Altar Guild of the church. A long-time member of the Mifflinburg Athenaeum Club, Helen served as past president and secretary.

Helen enjoyed painting ceramics and decorating their home with her needlepoint designs. Her family was most important to her, raising her children, enjoying her grandchildren’s visits, and, in later years, hearing stories about her great-grandchildren.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Carol I. and Linn E. Mensch, of Mifflinburg; one son and daughter-in-law, David E. and Sue E. Iddings, of Mifflinburg; one adopted daughter and son-in-law, Crystal L. and Malcolm E. Moss, of Gap; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Jeffrey L. Mensch, Esq., Gregory L. and Carol R. Mensch, Michael A. and Tracey D. Mensch, Drew E. and Alyssa J. Iddings, Ashley E. Iddings, Andrew P. Moss, Heather L. and Charles A. Schlegel, and Stacey L. and Phillip M. Dixon; 10 great-grandchildren, Megan Mensch, Logan Mensch, Taylor Schlegel, Jenna Schlegel, Lucas Schlegel, Sarah Moss, Kelly Moss, Evan Iddings, Benjamin Iddings, and Samuel Dixon.

There will be no public viewing. Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 Market St., Mifflinburg, followed by the funeral at 3 with the Rev. John Yost and the Rev. Ronald Warfle, officiating.

Burial will be in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to a charity of donor’s choice in memory of Helen.
