Harry A. VanSickle

Harry A. VanSickle, 80, of Lewisburg, entered into rest on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Wellspan Evangelical Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born March 18, 1946 in Bloomsburg, a son of the late Harold E. Sr., and Lois M. (Letterman) VanSickle.

Harry was a 1964 graduate of Danville High School and then attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. While there, he was a two-time All-American linebacker in football.

After graduation, he was employed at Mobil Oil, Merrill Lynch as a stockbroker, then bought a local business, The Beer Barn, in Lewisburg, which he owned and operated for almost 50 years.

Harry entered the local political scene and served as the Union County Commissioner for 5 terms. He was appointed as a Deputy State Secretary for the State of Pennsylvania. After his time in state government, Harry retired and enjoyed going to breakfast every morning with family and friends.

Harry enjoyed antiquing and selling his finds at the local flea market with his late wife, Shirley.

Surviving are one daughter, Christine Stroble and husband Kelly, of Muncy; one sister, Nancy Wintersteen of Bloomsburg; and two brothers, and sisters-in-law, Harold “Bud” Jr., and Betty VanSickle, Jeff and Monica VanSickle, all of Lewisburg. Harry was also a stepfather to Shirley’s 5 children, Kathy, David, Michael, Kelly, and John, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley H. O’Brien, and one sister, Marjorie Conner, and brother William VanSickle.

A private graveside will be held at the convenience of the family, with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
