Granville, better known as "Hoagie" or "Granny", was born March 9, 1929, in Millerstown, a son of the late John and Bertha (Thompson) Hogentogler. On January 3, 1981, in Kreamer, he married the former Florence V. (Barnes) Hartley, who survives.

He was a 1947 graduate of Greenwood High School.

After graduation, he enlisted in the Army Signal Corp., where he served honorably from 1947 to 1951. Part of that time was spent in Japan during the occupation after WWII.

He was an employee of the United States Postal Service in Harrisburg until his retirement in 1986, after 34 years of service.

Granville spent many of his retirement years driving for Meals on Wheels. He was a regular blood donor to the American Red Cross, and was proud to have donated over 12 gallons of blood during his lifetime. Granville loved people and was generous to all who knew him.

He enjoyed the outdoors, and found pleasure in tending to his bees and sharing the honey with family and friends. Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing with friends and family, and cutting wood.

In addition to his wife of 28 years, he is survived by six step children and their spouses, Linda Trask of Mechanicsburg, Steve and Marilyn Hartley of Livingston, Montana, Susan and Mark Shultz of Loudon, Tenn., Nancy Lauver of Richfield, Ann Hartley of Winfield, and Rebecca and Theron Fox of Winfield; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Oliver and Elsa Hogentogler of Harrisburg; one sister, Janet Kingsborough of Mechanicsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother George Hogentogler.

Visitors may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, at the Calvary Baptist Church, 332 E. Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m., with Pastor Shawn A. Mclain, officiating.

Burial will be in the Chestnut Hills Cemetery, Winfield, with military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.
