MIFFLINBURG a�" Glen Foster Zimmerman, 85, of 12765 Buffalo Road since 1997, formerly of Buffalo Creek Road for 35 years, entered into rest onA Thursday, May 15, 2014, at his home.
He was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Thurston F. and Ethel (Shuck) Zimmerman. On March 11, 1952, inA St. John'sUnitedA ChurchA of Christ, Mifflinburg, he married the former Ruth C. Wehr, who survives.
Glen was a 1946 graduate ofA MifflinburgA High School.
He was a dairy farmer his entire life and owned and operated Zi-We Farm, Mifflinburg, for many years. Glen was a mail carrier for the Mifflinburg post office from 1970 to 1991. During this time, he was presented with the Special Person Award for Outstanding Work with Youth of the Community.
Glen was a lifelong member ofA St. John'sA UnitedA ChurchA of Christ, Mifflinburg, where he served as president of the church council, was a youth fellowship group adviser and was aA SundayA school teacher and superintendent for many years. He was past president, treasurer and secretary of the Union County Holstein Club, wasA UnionA CountyA director and president of theA Pennsylvania State Holstein Association and was a member of the National Holstein Association. Glen served as chairman of the CentralA Pennsylvania Holstein Sale Committee and chairman of the 1965 State Holstein Convention inA Williamsport. In 1998, he was inducted into theA Pennsylvania Holstein Hall of Fame.
Glen was cubmaster of Pack 3520, Mifflinburg, for six years. He was a board member of theA MifflinburgA AreaA School DistrictA from 1973 to 1979, served on the Union County Conservation Board and was a member and chief cook at the Vicksburg Community Hall.
He became involved in the Mifflinburg Young Farmers Association in 1946, serving as chapter president and secretary. Glen was active in helping form theA Pennsylvania Young Farmers Association in 1949. He was honored with the state Outstanding Young Farmer award and Honorary Keystone Farmer Degree in 1957, regional Community Service Award in 1971 and in 1978 became a life member of the Dairy Shrine Club.
Glen was a member of the Union County West End Fair Association, and in 1978, the West End Fair booklet was dedicated in his honor. He was a member of the Union County Sportsmen's Club, Weikert.
He was past master and a 50-year member of Mifflinburg Free & Accepted Masons Lodge 370, president of the Sunbury Shrine Club, a member of the Williamsport Consistory, Irem Temple, Wilkes-Barre, Sunbury Mount Herman Commander and Vallerchamp Council, a Milton Royal Arch 50-year member and past patron of the Order of Eastern Star, Lewisburg.
Glen enjoyed family gatherings, watching the hummingbirds and animals at his cabin, hunting and watchingA PennA StateA football, Lady Lion basketball andA PittsburghA sports. He was proud of his wife and very supportive of her political career.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, William L. and Kathy W. Zimmerman and John T. and Linda M. Zimmerman, all of Mifflinburg; six grandchildren and their spouses, Korey and Jodi Zimmerman, Troy and Amanda Zimmerman and Tiffany Shirk, all of Mifflinburg, Amy and Dan DiGregorio, of Wayne, Christopher Pulliam, of Mifflinburg, and Dana Pulliam, of Pittsburgh; four great-grandsons; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Terry L. and Dorothy Zimmerman, of Allenwood; and one sister-in-law, Ruth T. Zimmerman, of Mifflinburg.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dean L. Zimmerman.
There will be no public viewing. Family and friends are welcome to a time of visitation from 2 to 4 andA 6 to 8 p.m. MondayA in the Roupp Funeral Home Inc.,A 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg, where there will be a Masonic service atA 7:45 p.m.A The funeral will be conducted atA 11 a.m. TuesdayA inA St. John'sA UnitedA ChurchA of Christ,A 417 Market St., Mifflinburg, with the Rev. Susan Gabbard officiating.
Burial will be inA MifflinburgA Cemetery.
