Giung Xuan Diep, 80, of Lewisburg, passed away at 11:45 p.m., on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Kramm Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Milton, where he had been admitted on July 6.
He was born on February 7, 1934, in Hai Phong, North Vietnam. Giung is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kim Thi Pham. They were married April 4, 1964, at Saigon, South Vietnam.
He is also survived by one son John X. Diep of Maryland; two grandsons, Brandon Diep and Ryan Diep of Williamsport; and a sister, Phudng of North Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by one son, Anh S. Kinhte (Diep) in 1998; and several half-brothers and half-sisters.
Giung was employed in the Bucknell dining room for 16 years, where he was a supervisor. He was appreciated and respected by his friends, coworkers, and neighbors. He enjoyed traveling, going on tours, doing garden work, and visiting with friends.
He served in the South Vietnamese Navy for 21 years. Beginning in 1954 he worked in artillery maintenance on board ship. Then from 1964 until 1975, he worked for the Navy in an inventory and supply office in Saigon. He attained the rank of thuong si (master sergeant).
The Diep family settled in Lewisburg in 1975. They became U.S. Citizens and Giung voted in every election since.
Family and friends are welcome to a time of visitation from 9:30 to 10 a.m., Friday, at the Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, 42 S. Third St., Lewisburg, where a memorial service to celebrate the life of Giung will be conducted at 10, with Rev. Rebecca Foote, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Beaver Memorial United Methodist Church, 42 S. Third St., Lewisburg, PA 17837.
