George Sterling

December 17, 1926 — November 23, 2015

MIFFLINBURG – George Robert “Bob” Sterling, 88, a lifelong resident of 228 Walnut St., entered into rest at 9:30 p.m., Monday, November 23, 2015, at Heritage Springs Memory Care, Lewisburg, where he had been a resident since August.

He was born December 17, 1926, in Danville, a son of the late Francis E. and Florence E. (Lance) Sterling.

Bob was a 1944 graduate of Mifflinburg High School.

He served in the Army during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946.

Bob was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg.

Bob was employed at Sterling Brothers Throwing Mill, Mifflinburg, from 1952 until 1973, and then as plant manager at Gross’s Throwing Mill, Selinsgrove, until he retired in 1995.

He was a member of the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410, the Mifflinburg V.F.W. Post 1964, and Shade Mountain Golf Course, Middleburg.

Bob enjoyed golfing, bowling, cars, model trains.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy E. and Rande Bilger of Selinsgrove, and Kelly M. and Steve Benner of Williamsport; three sons and one daughter-in-law,, Michael R. Sterling of Mifflinburg, and David A. and Lynn Sterling, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and John C. Sterling of Millmont; 10 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and one cousin, Helen Jean Snook of Mifflinburg.

He was preceded in death by one son Mark in 1983; and one grandson, Bennett in 2003.

Family and friends are welcome from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 Market St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11, with Rev. John Yost, officiating.

Military honors will be by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410 and area veterans.
