George “Mick” Malcolm Guffey, Jr., 82, of Mifflinburg, entered into rest Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Oak Glen, Lewisburg.
He was born April 20, 1943, in Lewisburg, son of the late Anne Frederick Payne (husband James Payne) and George Guffey, Sr. On May 6, 1966, in Mifflinburg, he married the former Doris L. Aikey, who preceded him in death May 14, 2022, after 56 years of marriage.
George graduated from Lewisburg High School in 1961 and attended Bucknell University for a year and a half before leaving to train with the U.S. Army Security Agency. He was stationed in Korea after completing intercept school at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He was very proud of his service with the ASA.
After returning from the military, George worked for Sherwin-Williams and a local oil company. He eventually returned to Bucknell University as a stadium manager and later served as paint supervisor until his retirement.
George was a 50-year member of the Mifflinburg American Legion and a lifelong member of the Buffalo Valley Sportsman’s Association, Mifflinburg. Until his battle with cancer, he enjoyed volunteering with the Boy Scout Klondike Challenge and serving as an officer of the Mifflinburg Fire Police.
He found joy tinkering around the barn, trips to the casino with friends, playing games with extended family, watching his granddaughter grow up, and "porch time" with neighbors. Everyone in town knew to come to Guff’s barn for odds and ends.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Bailey, son-in-law, Chris, and granddaughter, Emma all of Lewisburg; his brother, Michael Guffey and his family of Tacoma, Washington.
A graveside service to celebrate Mick’s life will be conducted at 5 p.m., Thursday, June 12, at Lewisburg Cemetery, with military honors accorded by American Legion Post 410 and VFW Post 1964, both of Mifflinburg.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Mifflinburg Fire Company or Fire Police, 325 Chestnut St., Mifflinburg, PA 17844.
