Fred E. Smith, 79, Lewisburg

Fred Eugene Smith, 79, of 133 JPM Rd., for the past 12 years, formerly of Hollow Rd., Lewisburg, entered into rest at 11:40 a.m., Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at his home.

He was born October 24, 1931, in Milton, a son of the late Albert L., Sr. and Mildred (Yeager) Smith. On June 16, 1956, in Lewisburg, he married the former Thelma J. Heimbach, who survives.

Fred honorably served in the Army, 8th Division, during the Korean War, from 1952 to 1954.

After his honorable discharge, he was employed at the Central Chemical Co., Milton, from 1954 until he retired in 1993.

Fred enjoyed farming at his home on Hollow Road, Lewisburg, donating to the Feed the Children Fund, and assisting with the Boys Town Mission.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1964, Mifflinburg.

Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Fred E., Jr. and Sherry Smith of Selinsgrove, and Larry E. Smith of Lewisburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Nioka J. and David Baumer of Mazeppa; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William G. and Wanda Wert of Sunbury, and Larry R. and Connie Smith of Lewisburg; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Shirley Fausey of Watsontown, Helen Hess of Lititz, Nancy Finan of Mifflinburg, Patricia and Francis Dauberman of Lewisburg, and Marion and Sonny Rice of Lewisburg; five grandchildren, Jonelle L. and her husband Clyde R. Fetzer, Jr. of Milton, Samara Smith of Selinsgrove, Shandel Smith of Selinsgrove, Daniel Baumer of Mazeppa, and Courtney Baumer of Mazeppa; and two great grandchildren, Jaden M. Smith and Arianna P. Fetzer.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Albert, and Ralph Smith.

Family and friends are welcome from 11 a.m. to noon, Saturday, at the Forest Hill United Methodist Church, where the funeral will be conducted at noon, with Pastor Ricky Phillips, officiating.

Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery, with military honors by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410.

Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
