Eugene E. Spangler, 88, Mifflinburg

Eugene Elwood Spangler, 88, of 233 Buffalo Creek Rd., entered into rest at 2:22 a.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born February 17, 1925, in New Berlin, a son of the late Palmer E. and Matilda H. (Kline) Spangler. On March 1, 1950, in Kane, he married the former Martha Mae Turner, who preceded him in death April 21, 1983. On March 22, 1992, he married the former June Walker Wagner, who preceded him in death March 3, 2013.

Eugene was a 1944 graduate of Lewisburg High School.

He was a faithful member of the Christ's United Lutheran Church, Millmont, where he served on the original church council that brought the four congregations together. Eugene served several terms on church council, served as an usher, and Sunday school superintendent.

Eugene was a self-employed dairy and crop farmer most of his life. He and his wife, Martha, owned and operated Gene-Mar Farms, Mifflinburg. Earlier in life, he was employed at Allenwood Ordinance where he handled ammunitions during the World War II war effort.

Eugene served on the Western Area Joint School board. He was active in Mifflinburg Young Farmers, Dairy Lea, and Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. Eugene was a member of the West End Lion's Club, Millmont, Buffalo Valley Sportsmen's Club, Mifflinburg, and Free & Accepted Masons Lodge # 370, Mifflinburg.

He enjoyed watching Penn State football and hunting.

Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Glenn L. and Patricia S. Spangler, Lee E. and Kathy L. Spangler, and Barry E. Spangler, all of Mifflinburg; six granddaughters, Lindsay Spangler of Champaign, IL, Alicia Spangler of Indiana, PA, Valerie and her husband Kevin Fry of Winfield, Sheila and her husband Caleb Clark of Lewisburg, Penny and her husband Clint Neidig of Mifflinburg, and Ginger and her husband Orin Moyer of Oley; 8 great grandchildren, Jonathan and Mason Neidig, Ethan and Whitney Clark, Reeves and Leif Moyer, and Brycen and Troy Fry; one step-son, David L. Wagner of Myrtle Beach, SC; two step-grandchildren, Jessica and Daniel Wagner; and three step-great grandchildren, Daisy, Michael, and Gabriella Wagner.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet M. Spangler in 1966; two brothers, Donald and George Spangler; and two sisters, Margaret Moyer, and Evelyn Shiffer.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 9 p.m., Monday, and 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the Christ's United Lutheran Church, 13765 Old Turnpike Rd., Millmont, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., with Rev. John D.Yost, officiating.

Family and friends are invited to a light meal and time of fellowship in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.

Burial will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Christ's United Lutheran Church, Memorial Fund, 13765 Old Turnpike Rd., Millmont, PA 17845.

Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.
