Eleanor "Ellie" Mae Swanger

Eleanor “Ellie” Mae Swanger, 84, of Lewisburg, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 13, 2026. She was surrounded by love and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She was born April 24, 1941 in Yeagertown, a daughter of the late Ross and Blanche (Kratzer) Romig. On July 4th, 1959 in Yeagertown, she married Fred Allen Swanger, who survives.

Ellie graduated with honors from Chief Logan High School, Burnham, Pennsylvania.

She was an active member of Christ Wesleyan Church, Milton. Ellie loved Jesus and her family above all else, and her faith guided every part of her life.

She was a wonderful cook and found great joy in opening her home to family, especially for cherished Sunday dinners that brought everyone together around the table.

Creative and talented, she spent many happy hours quilting and sewing, and later took up a love for painting, expressing her creativity in new and beautiful ways. She also enjoyed traveling with friends and family, making memories that will be treasured forever.

Ellie had numerous jobs that she enjoyed throughout her life, ultimately retiring from Moore Business Forms, Lewisburg, after 25 years.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 66 years, are one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Crystal Swanger of Milton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Brenda and Dennis Berkheimer, and Denise Romig, all of Mifflinburg; one brother, Bill Romig of Milroy; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Anthony and Erin Threet, Tristan and Jackie Threet, Nichole and Jesse Beck, Joshua and Megan Berkheimer, Kelsey Berkheimer, Nathaniel and Amber Swanger, and Justin and Trish Romig; and eight great-grandchildren, Brady and Bryce Threet, Seven Threet, Ryan Berkheimer, Carter and Ethan Beck, and Levi and Selah Berkheimer, and number nine on the way.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Gregory Allen Swanger; three brothers, David, John, and Melvin Romig; two sisters, Marion Soccia and Dorothy Fisher; and one son-in-law, Ben Romig.

Her kindness, generosity, and devotion to her faith and family will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 28, at Christ Wesleyan Church, 363 Stamm Rd., Milton, with Pastor Ken Paulhamus, officiating.

Burial will be held privately in New Berlin Cemetery.
