Edna Ruth Cooney

October 3, 1931 — April 17, 2026

Mifflinburg

Edna Ruth Cooney, 94, of Mifflinburg, went to be with the Lord and her late husband, Jack, at 8:00 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2026. Edna loved and missed Jack dearly and we know they are together now in Heaven.

She was born October 3, 1931, in Mifflinburg, a daughter of the late George and Virgie (Shambach) Kahler. On December 24, 1951, in Mifflinburg, she married John “Jack” R. Cooney, who preceded her in death 2001.

Edna attended Mifflinburg High School.

Her last place of employment was at the Mifflinburg Elementary School cafeteria.

Edna was a member of the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed many things in life, like her favorite black raspberry ice cream from Amy Frosty Freeze. Edna loved chocolate covered marshmallows and neapolitan ice cream sandwiches. She enjoyed Hallmark movies, reading Debbie McComber and playing zonk. Edna loved chicken decor and decorating her house at Christmas time. She enjoyed the Mifflinburg parade and getting her favorite candies and feeding the ducks at the Farmers Market.

In her earlier years, she enjoyed talking and sitting with friends and family on her porch on Walnut Street.

More recently, she loved every visit and phone call from her family and cuddling with her grand pup, Lily. It always made her happy to get cookies hand delivered from her great grandchildren and she was very thankful for her long-time helpers whom she considered friends, Eleesha, Rose, and Trish.

Edna was a kind and caring soul and was a truly amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to so many. She will forever be remembered for her beautiful heart, smile, and laughter.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Andy and Bob Manotti, Jr. of Mifflinburg, Terri and Earl Zeckman of Georgia, and Peg and John Moser of Watsontown; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David and Marcia Cooney of Mifflinburg, and John Cooney of Frackville; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Jeana and Michael Nornhold, Dustin and Rachel Manotti, Clint Manotti, Sarah and Brendan Szefinski, Andrew Cooney, Sherah Cooney and Al Oberman, Jaala and Tad Leggette, Talitha and Gary Workman, and T.J. and Tracy Cooney, Dan and Kerry Zeckman, Mike and Becky Bohner, Trisha and Taylor Zehrung; and 18 great grandchildren.
