Duane L. “Joe” Zimmerman, 74 of Mifflinburg, passed away suddenly at his home, Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
He was born February 6, 1951, in Lewisburg, a son of late Lester “Rube” and Alma F. (Smith) Zimmerman. On July 9, 1989, in Laurelton, he married his best friend, the former Patti Jean Middleswarth, who survives.
Joe was a 1969 graduate of Mifflinburg High School.
He was employed as an Electrical Foreman for the Borough of Mifflinburg for 45 years and upon retirement served on the Borough Council. He also started his own electrical business of which he was very proud.
Joe was a member of the Buffalo Valley Sportsmen’s Club, Mifflinburg, Shade Mountain Golf Club, Middleburg, Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410, and Middleburg Moose Lodge 1229.
He was involved with many organizations in his community over his lifetime, including serving as Fire Chief and a life member of the Mifflinburg Hose Company, Christkindl Market Committee, Mifflinburg Buggy Museum, a planner in the building of the Harry Haney Ball Fields, and was instrumental in the lighting of the World War II Honor Roll in Mifflinburg park, and was on the board of the Union County West End Fair Association. One of his favorite activities was shooting the 4th of July fireworks with his sons.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 36 years, are two sons and daughters-in-law, Casey and Tonya Zimmerman of Mifflinburg, and Curt and Bethany Zimmerman of Mifflinburg; three precious granddaughters Macey Jo, Emery Elizabeth, and Paisley June Zimmerman; one sister, Barbara Stamm of New Berlin; one brother, Nick Zimmerman of New Berlin; and two nephews.
Family and friends are welcome to a time of visitation from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, September 8, at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 2, with Pastor Myron Yoder, officiating.
Burial will be in the Lincoln Chapel Cemetery.
