Dorothy Hovey

May 13, 1925 — November 25, 2017

Dorothy Mae Hovey, 92, residing at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village and formerly of Meadow Green Drive, Mifflinburg, entered into rest at 4:55 p.m., Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

Born May 13, 1925, in Fairfield, Tioga County, New York, she was the daughter of the late Walter B. and Elizabeth (Holden) Dennis.  She was a graduate of the Newark Valley, NY High School in 1942.  On September 16, 1946, at the Fairfield United Methodist Church, she married George A. Hovey, who preceded her in death October 9, 2016.

Dorothy was employed at IBM in Ithaca, New York, during the war years and when George attended Cornell University, then later worked for Sears as a credit investigator.  She celebrated over 70 years of marriage with George and proudly raised three sons while living in Rochester, Arkport and Syracuse, New York.  She spent fond years with her family at their retirement home along the St. Lawrence Seaway in the Thousand Islands, New York.

Her favorite pastime besides homemaking was knitting for family gifts and donating her skills in the making of baby sweaters for charitable causes.

Surviving are two sons and three daughters-in-law, Douglas W. and Karen C. Hovey of Mifflinburg, Scott A. and Ramona K. Hovey of Austin, Texas, and Maria E. Hovey of Morgan Hill, California; 7 grandchildren, Ian and wife Anne Marie, Benjamin and wife Rachel, Pablo, Diana, Nichole, Rachael, and Grant Hovey; one great grandson, Arlo Hovey; one sister, Katherine Dunning Szalay of Talking Rock, Georgia; two nieces and three nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, George A. Hovey, Jr.; and one sister, Mary Clark.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, for a viewing at the Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd., Mifflinburg.

A graveside service will be conducted at 12 p.m., Saturday, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor, New York, with the Rev. Roger Richards of Endwell, New York officiating.
