Donald Girton

Donald R. Girton, 74, of Mifflinburg, was stricken ill at home and went to be with Our Lord at 8:17 a.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.

He was born August 3, 1945, in Danville, a son of the late Warren C. and Edith M. (Hidlay) Girton.  On October 7, 1988, he married the former Roxie O. Huntington, who survives.

Donald was a 1963 graduate of Sunbury High School and attended Penn State University, Hazleton.

He retired in 2010 after more than 14 years as a building inspector and code enforcement officer with the Central Keystone Council of Governments, Lewisburg.  Donald previously was employed by Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, as coordinator of the lifeline and hospital safety programs.  And earlier in life, he worked as a production machinist at AMP Incorporated, Selinsgrove, for eighteen years.

Donald was a member of the Dreisbach United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, where he served his church as an elder, deacon, and trustee.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Donald was an amateur ham radio operator with the call sign of WB3GDH.  He was one of the founders of the Susquehanna Valley Amateur Radio Club.  Donald helped to set-up the club’s repeater system atop of Shade Mountain.

He liked to watch Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates baseball and NASCAR racing.

Donald was a member of the Lafayette Lodge 194, F&AM, Selinsgrove.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 31 years, are two sons, Jeffery D. Girton of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, and Scott A. Girton of Lewisburg; three stepchildren and their spouses, Boneita A. Dodge of Montoursville, Pamela R. and Scott Eberhart of Mifflinburg, and Timothy S. and Detra Dodge of Mifflinburg; two grandchildren, Jeremy D. Girton and Jennifer D. Devensky; three great grandchildren, Ian and Isabelle Devensky, and Grayson Girton; three step grandchildren, Justin Eberhart, Amber Swartzlander, and Caitlin Mironenko; two step great grandchildren, Olivia and Lucas Eberhart; and one sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Earl Michael of Lewisburg.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Warren, Jr., in infancy; one stepson, Douglas Dodge; and one daughter-in-law, Sharon Girton.

Family and friends are welcome to a time of visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Dreisbach United Church of Christ, 875 Dreisbach Rd., Lewisburg, where a Masonic service conducted by Lafayette Masonic Lodge #194 of Selinsgrove will begin at 11, the memorial service will follow with Rev. Nathan Druckenmiller, officiating.

Interment will be in the Dreisbach Church Cemetery.
