Denise Wetzel

May 25, 1959 — April 15, 2017

Denise Wehr Wetzel passed into her next life on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 12:56 p.m. at her home in New Berlin.

Denise enjoyed many quotes (words of wisdom) that she liked to pass along to friends and family as needed. She especially liked the Dalai Lama and his words of wisdom, as well as Deepak Chopra. The world made more sense to her through their eyes.

She was the daughter of the late Shirley (Catherman) Wehr and the late Earl Eugene Wehr. She leaves her best friend and husband of 20 years, Curtis Wetzel; one son, Benjamin Page, and his family, wife Ashley, four grandchildren, Natalie Grace (12 years), Mason Scott (7 years) Quinton Michael (4 years) and James Benjamin (1 year), all of State College. She also leaves two sisters and their families, Debra and Jeff Clouser, and son, Dustin Scholvin and his companion, Danielle Ocker Wallize, and grandson Cyruss; and Linda and Kenneth Rishel, their children and their spouses, Nicolas and Susan and their children, Linnley and Knox, Mark and Kim Rishel and their children, Broc and Brooklynn.

Denise believed in "planting a seed" whether it be a tidbit of information for a young mother or facilitating a young child discovering how to learn and play.
Her passion was entertaining and helping children laugh and learn. As a graduate of Susquehanna University, she was employed with Sum Child Development, helping children in several capacities.
She also believed in animals, and frequently would say "animals know stuff" because she firmly believed that animals naturally follow their inner voice/instinct as Mother Nature would have you live.

If you knew Denise, you knew her love for cats. She spent much of her life rescuing cats (Many stray cats in New Berlin).
She enjoyed camping, starting in a tent when her son and nephews were little and then graduating to a pop-up when Curt came into her life. Recently they purchased a larger camper and placed it permanently up in the Little Pine Creek Valley, where she and Curt spent many weekends enjoying each other, with Wetzel relatives, and Mother Nature.

Her most favorite place to sit in peace was in the Adirondack chairs at the Wehr mountainland along Rapid Run. She liked to camp and shared this love with friends and relatives. She was always grateful for flowers and any interactions with animals.
Denise saw herself as a gatherer of people, so please join together in laughter and friendship in a celebration of life at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the Laurel Lodge, 177 Camp Laurel Rd., Mifflinburg. As you get together, remember Denise as your friend, confidante and colleague.

Funeral arrangements are by the Roupp Funeral Home Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Road, Mifflinburg.
